Lifeguard Shortage Causes Sunday Pool Closure in Sedalia
Just when you thought that pandemic-related issues couldn't mess anything else up. Guess again. Sedalia Parks & Recreation have announced that due to a lifeguard shortage they'll only be opening one outdoor pool on Sundays this summer season.
According to Sedalia Parks & Recreation, a shortage of lifeguards is a problem nationwide this summer, and not specific to Sedalia or West Central Missouri. To that end, Parks & Rec is encouraging anyone 15 and over that has an interest in being a lifeguard to contact Aquatics Manager Clara Scott for more information. Sedalia Parks & Recreation can certify lifeguards in-house through the American Red Cross.
The issue of the Sunday outdoor pool closures will be revisited at the July Park Board meeting. And should the Parks & Rec have adequate staff, it's their hope to have both outdoor pools open later this summer.
For now, only one outdoor pool will open on Sundays, and all outdoor pool passes will be honored at the Heckart Community Center on Sundays.
Here's a listing of which pool will be open each Sunday:
