Update: The rescheduled dates for Kenny Chesney's tour have been posted. Kenny and his Chilaxification Tour will roll into Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on Saturday May 29, 2021. The tour will play Busch Stadium on Saturday July 10, 2021.

The tour cancellations continue to happen. The latest artists deciding to stay home and cancel tours that include Kansas City area shows are Maroon 5, who were scheduled to play the Sprint Center on August 27. And Kenny Chesney, whose Chillaxification tour was scheduled to play Arrowhead Stadium on July 11.

I'm sure there were many from West Central Missouri planning to head into Kansas City to see Chesney and his friends put on a fun, spectacle of a show at Arrowhead. These stadium shows, like the Chillaxification tour, and the Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Poison, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts tour are designed to be larger than life events. It's not a show, it's a spectacle. And for some music lovers, it's THE EVENT of the summer. Sadly, those who wanted to spend a sun soaked day and country music filled evening are going to have to wait until next year.

If you really want to hear how Kenny feels about the postponement of his tour, skip the somewhat sanitized professional explanation on his website and check his Twitter post out. On Tiwtter Chesney writes:

It's worth reading the attachment too. Kenny's not the only artist thinking about this stuff, trying to find a way through. Artist management, tour managers, promoters, anyone involved in the concert industry. And to broaden out that statement. I would bet our friends at the state fair are doing and thinking about the same things Kenny has been. Most involved in trying to put on a public fair, festival, concert or event are probably engaged in a similar thought process.

I've seen a bunch of Facebook posts from representatives of local fairs and festivals sadly break the news to their communities that their soul searching, research and actions trying to find a way to their event has led to the decision to skip doing their communities big summer event. You can see it hurts.

As for what to do with your Kenny Chesney Chillaxification Tour tickets. Save them. They'll be good for the rescheduled date. Arrowhead Events Twitter also says once the rescheduled date has been announced refunds will be available at the original point of purchase for 30 days.

I remain hopeful the COVID-19 situation will continue to improve. Enough so that we can entertain Americans and Missourians from near and far at the Missouri State Fair. I fear though, with another round of summer postponements from major artists the job of our fair friends tasked with booking concerts just got a little more difficult.
