Kelsea Ballerini Says ‘Yeah Boy’ at 2017 ACM Awards
Ballerini's pink, bedazzled bodysuit, rhinestone-covered tights and sky-high silver heels added to the lighthearted vibe of "Yeah Boy," and she owned the stage with a lively performance. Toward the end of the song, Ballerini slowed "Yeah Boy" just a little by playing her acoustic guitar and stripping it down.
"Yeah Boy" is Ballerini's fourth and final single from her debut studio album, The First Time. Written by the singer, Keesy Timmer and Forest Glen Whitehead, "Yeah Boy" was selected as a single because Ballerini wanted to follow up the historic success of her first three singles with a song that brought everything together and ended her album's single run in a full circle.
“We went back and forth on whether to do another single from the album or do something new,” she says. “"Yeah Boy" captures that fun youthfulness, and I thought it would be good to circle back and end on that note.”
Ballerini has spent the past year performing live across the U.S. many times over. Following her opening spot on Rascal Flatts' 2016 Rhythm & Roots Tour, the country singer kicked off her own headlining tour in the fall, aptly titled The First Time Tour. Since then, she's been on the road with Thomas Rhett's Home Team Tour, and beginning on May 26, she'll join Lady Antebellum for their You Look Good World Tour. Add to that a stunning performance of "Peter Pan" at the 2016 CMA Awards and a fun mashup with Danish rock band Lukas Graham at the 2017 Grammy Awards, and it's safe to say that Ballerini has had quite the year.
“I remember the first time I saw [Ballerini perform], I was like, ‘Man, she’s got something.’" Lady A's Charles Kelley says. "You could tell she was kind of green onstage, and now, the amount of growth — she’s a rock star, man … She’s starting to really just — she’s blown up this year, and so you always want someone like that. We’re really lucky.”
Ballerini received two nominations at the 2017 ACM Awards: one for Female Vocalist of the Year and one for Video of the Year, for "Peter Pan."
