One Missouri city made Go Banking Rates 25 Most Affordable, Fast-Growing Cities To Consider in 2024, which is amazing considering almost every time there's a conversation about affordable places to live in the last decade or so it's all been cities in the Southern United States or Texas.

Go Banking Rates list bears that out as well. The top five places to move to if you're looking for an affordable city include:

  • Killeen, Texas
  • Sioux Falls, South Dakota
  • Clarksville, Tennessee
  • Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
  • Lubbock, Texas

Sioux Falls is the only place in the Top 5 that isn't south or Texas. Squeezed between the #6 city Huntsville, Alabama, and the #8 city Greensboro, North Carolina is only one of two midwestern cities to make the list.

At #7 on Go Banking Rates list is Kansas City. That's certainly different than the story on the other side of the state, where St. Louis seems hard-pressed to make a list like Go Banking Rates.

In fact, according to Spectrum News, The City of St. Louis lost 5% of their population between April 2020 and July 2022, and many of the cities in St. Louis County didn't fare much better. That's not to say the St. Louis area is fairing poorly. Wentzville, Missouri is the fastest-growing city in Missouri, and St. Charles County is growing as well.

Back to the Go Banking Rates article. They not only looked at population growth but also considered median household income, average rent, average home values, and the overall cost of living. When they plugged in all those factors, Kansas City is one of the bigger cities on the list. Which, unfortunately, isn't something that can be said about any town in the St. Louis area.
