Writer Dov Kleiman tweeted earlier that the Kansas City Chiefs will re-do Patrick Mahomes contract before the start of the football season and make him the highest-paid player in the NFL. Kleiman cites Mike Florio in his tweet. I say let's get the deal done and go play some football.

Florio's own article on the NBC Sports website says:

"Chiefs G.M. Brett Veach already has vowed to address the Mahomes deal after more quarterback contracts are completed. While Veach didn’t delve into any specifics, here’s what reasonably should be expected, based on our conversations with folks aware of the dynamics of the situation.

Expect Mahomes, before the season begins, to once again be the highest-paid player in league history."

There are great players, there are superstars, and then there are the players that transcend all those descriptions. Brett Farve was a superstar. Joe Montana was a superstar. Walter Payton was a great player. Peyton Manning was a great player. Yet once in a while, someone comes along who's better than that.

In basketball, it was Michael Jordan. We may argue today about whose better MJ or Lebron James, but Jordan's going to win that argument almost every time. When you compare Jordan to other superstars of his era, no one is his equal. He's above them.

In football, that's Patrick Mahomes. Ok, maybe Tom Brady is his equal, or perhaps Mahomes is the successor to Brady, but I think when it's all said and done. I hope, anyway, that Mahomes will be head and shoulders above everyone else.

Let me put it this way, I don't know how many people have turned on a football game to see Tom Brady play. I know I haven't. Yet, for both the Red Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs, I've watched games because Mahomes was playing and his playing makes it exciting.

The Chiefs Kingdom has fans all over the world, but right now, for this moment in time. The Kingdom has expanded. The Chiefs are winning and a lot of fun to watch. Patrick Mahomes is the reason why. So let's get this deal done and go play some football. We may be watching the greatest football player ever, and he's a Kansas City Chief. If that doesn't give you goosebumps...
