Have you heard about The Science of Guinness World Records? I hadn't, that is, until they decided to bring the kid-friendly exhibit to Union Station along with the Chiefseum, the Guinness World Record holder for the most Kansas City Chiefs memorabilia. I'll be honest, too: I'm a little more interested in the Chiefs stuff than the science of Guinness World Records.

What Is The Guinness Book Of World Records?

According to Guinness World Records, Sir Hugh Beaver, the managing director of the Guinness Brewery, originated the idea for the Guinness Book of Records. The original idea was a book of facts patrons could use to solve arguments. Sir Beaver came up with the idea after he witnessed an argument over the fastest game bird in Europe, where no one could find a definitive answer.

Oddly, the book never answered that question because the authors decided to focus purely on world records while working on it. (The answer, which is now on the Guinness World Records website origins page, is the red-breasted merganser.)

Today, Guinness World Records is a global brand with offices worldwide and brand ambassadors and adjudicators on the ground.

What Is The Science of Guinness World Records at Union Station?

The Science of Guinness World Records is an exhibit that takes the young and young at heart behind the scenes to see what it took for the world's great record holders to be named a Guinness World Record Holder.  According to the exhibit information on the Union Station website, "Hear the stories of those who set out to break new ground and succeeded. Learn the secrets, then try it for yourself."

According to the Union Station website, visitors to the exhibit will learn how the Guinness World Records book came about, understand what it takes to achieve a Guinness World Record, and learn about the tips and tricks some record breakers used to achieve their feat. Additionally, fans will be able to marvel at the world of Extreme Miniatures, and see a steampunk locomotive built entirely with matchsticks, as well as visit the Chiefseum, which is scheduled to be part of the exhibit through Labor Day, according to a Facebook post by Kansas Travel.

The Chieseum At Union Station

The Chiefseum curated by Curt Herrman, the Guinness World Records holder for a collection of Kansas City Chiefs Memorabilia, is in Manhattan, Kansas. It started when Curt received a Chiefs football after the Chiefs won Super Bowl IV and he's been collecting ever since.

The official information on the exhibit doesn't include the fact that the Chiefseum is at Union Station right now; however, the Chiefseum's Facebook page confirms this, which makes me want to check it out. Keep scrolling to see some pretty cool items from the Chiefseum's collection.
