Missouri Cave Where Jesse James Hid $250,000 in Gold Then Escaped
If you love Missouri and wild west history, you will likely enjoy this. There's a new look inside the Missouri cave where Jesse James and his brother Frank and other members of the James Gang hid a quarter million dollars in gold and then escaped and many of their original belongings remain.
So happy that The History Underground on YouTube shared their visit to what most of us now know as Meramec Caverns. They captured video of the area inside this Missouri cave where historians believe there is firm proof that Jesse and Frank James hid with their stolen gold and many of their items remained behind after they escaped.

As the tour guide shared in the video walkthrough, law officers had Jesse and Frank James trapped in the cave and tried to starve them out by waiting outside 3 days and 3 nights. When they finally rushed inside, they found the gold chest empty along with 25 other items directly connected to Jesse James and his recent robberies. The chest and lantern that remain in Meramec Caverns to this day are original and believed to be from the James Gang. The pistol in the office area near the cave entrance is also possibly a James Gang relic as it was also found where Jesse and Frank almost certainly were.
