Today’s Garbage Service In Sedalia Stopped Due to Extreme Cold
Sedalia Public Works has had to delay trash pick up for some areas of the City scheduled for service today after temperatures dropped earlier than expected. This is according to a news release from the City.
The Sanitation Department had hoped to get today's trash service completed before the predicted temperature drop today, Thursday, December 22, 2022. However, the cold front arrived earlier than expected which caused equipment to freeze up.
The area between West 3rd Street and West Broadway from South Moniteau Avenue to U.S. 65, as well as the area from U.S. 65 to State Fair Boulevard from West Broadway to West Main Street, will have their garbage pick-up delayed until Monday.
The City of Sedalia previously announced that Friday's regularly scheduled garbage pick-up would be delayed until Monday in order to keep sanitation workers safe and not have to work outside in the extreme temperatures.
The forecast for Sedalia from our weather provider, Weatherology, says Sedalia can expect an overnight low of -7 Thursday night, and a daytime high of about 5 on Friday, December 23, 2022. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Warning through Noon on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2022. Wind Chills could reach -40 according to their warning.
The City says regular trash pick-ups will resume as scheduled on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.
Additionally, Sedalia Water is reminding residents to let cold water drip through their faucets as running water through the pipes, even at a trickle, can help keep pipes from freezing during extremely cold weather.
