13 Years Ago, St. Louis, Missouri Clobbered By Monster Tornadoes

I've been in and through the St. Louis, Missouri airport many times in my lifetime, but I've fortunately never experienced what everyone in those terminals did on this day 13 years ago when monster tornadoes devasted the St. Louis area including a direct hit on the airport.

April is a stormy month in Missouri normally, but April 22, 2011 even more so. The National Weather Service out of St. Louis, Missouri commemorated what has become known as the "Good Friday Tornadoes" on a Facebook post today.

There is video footage of what happened that day specifically at the St. Louis, Missouri airport as those waiting for flights in the terminal began seeing volatile cloud movement and eventually debris outside the big windows there.

There was screaming by many to get away from those windows when shortly after many exploded as the tornado began impacting the airport.

Remarkably, authorities learned there were no fatalities and only minor injuries after the storm had passed, but property and vehicle damage in the St. Louis area was massive.

Many still recall where they were in Missouri that day when St. Louis took direct hits by many twisters including a huge EF-4 rated tornado. Fortunately, everyone that day lived to tell the tale and did not become a tragic statistic.
