Today's National Mom & Pop Business Day!  According to National Today Dot Com this is how they describe it:

Our economy couldn’t run without small mom and pop businesses. They create economic growth and provide almost 70% of all new jobs in the country. That’s why every year on March 29 we acknowledge the more than 27 million small businesses in this country by celebrating National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day! The holiday was established by Rick and Margie Segel in honor of their parents and the successful hat shop they opened in 1939 and grew into a 10,000 square foot, $2 million dollar clothing shop. It is a special day to appreciate the long hours, hard work and dedication it takes to run a small business. So on March 29, head to your favorite small business to say thank you!

I have worked for a few small businesses in my past.  Restaurants, mostly.  They are the backbone of our small towns.  You know what to expect from chain places.  This is not a bad thing, as sometimes you are willing to go to a place that has a more established reputation.  But today, you should try and shop a local place.  I posed the question above for you, the listeners, to tag your favorite local business.  You can check the comments in the above post to see some of the suggestions.

For my own personal choices, they usually revolve around food.  Hence my Food Adventures articles.  So if you are going to grab some grub today may I suggest:

Calgaro's In Cole Camp

Smithton Diner in Smithton

Belly Down BBQ in Knob Noster

Kehde's Barbeque in Sedalia

Obviously there are many others.  Share your favorites on our Facebook page and tag them so your fellow listeners can also support them and enjoy them. It can be a food place, or a retail place.  Let us know about them.
