5 Red Flags that You Should Really Never Ever Move to Missouri

I was born and raised in Missouri and live there now. Normally I would recommend that anyone and everyone consider making it their home state, too. But, there are some people who really should pay attention to red flags that are a sign that Missouri is not meant for you.

I don't like unsolicited advice so please know that I'm not trying to do that to you now. This is intended for someone who's 'on the fence' about relocating to Missouri. There are many people that have perceptions of what it's like. It's not a big revelation that some of those perceptions can be dead wrong.

All that being said, if you have these characteristics, you probably won't enjoy life in the Show Me State.

Want proof that Missouri doesn't change a lot (or at all)? The Kansas City Star reported on a Missouri ballot measure that will make it harder for voters to change the state constitution. Liking change is a red flag that Missouri will not please you much.

If you love cities, you have 2 real options. St. Louis or Kansas City. (Sorry Springfield, you don't count) The consensus on Quora is that Kansas City has a better and more centrally-located night life scene than St. Louis. But, it's mostly restaurants and sports bars. If you seek night life that's above and beyond that, look elsewhere.

Let's be clear. Missouri does not consist of just rednecks, but there are plenty of my people here. Here's a way to test yourself. Go to a Larry the Cable Guy concert and see if you get irritated after an hour or two. If you're laughing at the end and had a great time, come to Missouri and settle down. You'll love it.

I have lost track of how many people I've talked to in the grocery store parking lot simply because we made eye contact and said hello. I've always thought of it as the neighborly way to be. If that weirds you out, you might feel a bit uncomfortable with us Missouri people who like to talk.

I am not a political person and don't care if you have an elephant on your voter registration card or a donkey. It does seem to me that my donkey friends get a little more irritated with Missouri life than the elephant folks. If you think the politics that California is famous for are awesome, you probably will be happier elsewhere.
