Last week I wrote about how there could be long delays on the I-70 Rocheport Bridge over the Missouri River while they repaired the bridge to prolong it's lifespan by ten to fifteen years. Well those delays won't happen after Missouri was awarded $81 million dollars for the bridge's replacement this according Fox 4 KC.

The $81 million dollars comes in the form of a Rebuilding America grant from the United States Department of Transportation and also kicks in another $300 million dollars in state bonding for repairs to 215 bridges across Missouri.

So what does this new bridge mean for people that use I-70? Less delays. The new I-70 bridge will be built south of the current bridge and the current bridge will stay in operation while the new bridge is built. I'm sure at some point there will be some headaches for users of the bridge, but there shouldn't be the five to eight hour delays MoDOT thought could be possible with the road work.

Construction on the new bridge is slated to begin in 2021.
