Horace Mann Elementary kindergarten teacher Angela Richardson is the recipient of the Superintendent’s Bell Ringer Award for January.

The monthly award is a way for Superintendent Steve Triplett to honor Sedalia 200 staff members who put the district’s mission statement into action and those who display exemplary effort in celebrating student success.

Winners are selected from nominations made by staff members and administrators.

One of Richardson’s nominators wrote: “Angela is the definition of a kindergarten teacher. She is fun, energetic, engaging, loving, and spirited. You can always hear her class singing, chanting, cheering, or laughing during their learning. Angela does this so that her learning is engaging and students are excited by what is happening. This engagement increases her students' retention of the material being taught.”

Another wrote that Richardson “is constantly researching ideas and new methods that will challenge her students to increase their learning goals. … She exemplifies all the best qualities you would want your child's teacher to have: A kind heart, genuine care and concern, and always seeking to provide the best of the best for all.”

Triplett said, “Kindergarten is a pivotal time in a student’s academic career; it is so important that they establish a strong foundation for their future education. Ms. Richardson tends to every detail to help her students get on that path to success. Her caring nature and genuine connection with her students make her a role model for anyone teaching younger students.”

Other nominees for January were: Jessica Lutjen, Skyline Elementary; Michelle Wolfe, Allison Burkholder and Charli Neth, Heber Hunt Elementary; Amber Boles, Sedalia Middle School; Stephanie Jackson and Laura Peck, Parkview Elementary; Fran Cunningham and Laura Beth Fisher, Smith-Cotton Junior High; and Sarah Jones and Sara Pannier, Horace Mann Elementary.
