On Wednesday morning, Sedalia Police responded to the intersection of North Ohio Avenue and East Cooper Street in regard to a hit and run.

Upon arrival, Officers found that a vehicle had taken out a utility pole on the southeast portion of the intersection. Parts to the suspect vehicle were recovered at the scene.

The driver was later found at the Parkview Christian Church and the vehicle was found in an alley just north of the 400 block of East Pettis. The vehicle was towed and on Wednesday morning, Officers responded to the intersection of North Ohio Avenue and East Cooper Street in regard to a hit and run.

The vehicle was towed and Gregory Patrick Watson II, 32, of Independence, was arrested for Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Driving While Suspended. In collecting his things, Officers found a firearm hidden under his shirt and another one in his bag that were both found to be stolen.

The vehicle Watson was driving was also found to be stolen. It was discovered Watson had two active warrants and was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be held as one warrant, for Possession of an Unlawful Weapon, had a $10,000 bond and the other, a Parole Violation warrant on original charges of Burglary in the 2nd Degree had no bond. Watson was charged with Receiving Stolen Property, Tampering With a Motor Vehicle in the 1st Degree, and Felon in Possession of a Concealable Weapon.

Later that afternoon, Officers were dispatched to a report of a stolen gun from a vehicle. When Police arrived, they made contact with the victim, identified as Winter N. Hammond, 23, of Sedalia. Hammond stated that sometime overnight, someone took her Glock G43X 9mm pistol from her vehicle. There were no signs of forced entry. After gathering information for the report, a suspect was identified. Watson had been arrested with the pistol on his person.

Watson was additionally charged with Stealing From a Motor Vehicle. Photos of the scene were taken and attached to the report. The serial number on the pistol was checked, and it was confirmed to be the one stolen from the victim. The gun was placed into evidence storage and the owner was contacted by phone.
