‘Get Hard’ Trailer: Let’s Go to Prison With Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart
To be clear, this is not the trailer for ‘Die Hard.’ Or ‘Spy Hard.’ Or ‘Drive Hard.’ Or ‘Walk Hard’ (although that’s closer). No, this is the trailer for ‘Get Hard.’ Good, glad we cleared that up.
‘Get Hard,’ from director Etan Cohen (a writer on films like ‘Idiocracy,’ ‘Tropic Thunder,’ and ‘Men in Black 3’), marks the first buddy pairing of Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart. Ferrell plays a dirty businessman who’s about to be sent to jail; he hires Hart’s character to prepare him for the slammer by schooling him in the ways of toughness and vaguely genital-related humor. “I can get hard!” Will Ferrell screams. Guys, I don’t think he’s just talking about getting ready for prison.
This is the second ‘Get Hard’ trailer so far, and I like this one better than the first. Ferrell’s one of my favorites, and the notion of him “getting hard” is one that’s got plenty of potential for his brand of comedy. The Ferrell/Hart combo could be good too (the height disparity alone is funny), but for this movie to really work it’s going to have to go full-on into mocking and deconstructing stereotypes. Timid isn’t going to work, but that’s sort of what the first teaser looked like. This one is a bit more, uh, hard.
‘Get Hard’ opens in theaters on March 27, 2015.
