A new company will be coming to Sedalia in August and eventually employ up to 100 people.

Economic Development Sedalia-Pettis County (EDSPC) made the announcement Tuesday afternoon at their offices in the US Bank Building, 3615 W. Broadway.

Exam One, a Quest Diagnostics Inc., company will occupy the former Bings grocery store building on East Broadway.

Exam One helps life insurance companies protect their applicants and provide information collection services for life insurance underwriting in order to be able to issue policies.

The parent company, Quest Diagnostics, Inc., a Fortune 500 company, employs around 8,000 people, with other locations in Lee's Summit, St. Louis, San Diego, Toronto and Montreal.

Exam One President Stewart Smith said his call center company is committed to being good members of the community.

According to Rick Kincaid, COO of Exam One, said he loves the Sedalia location, and is fairly close to the Lee's Summit location.

“We felt like we could extend our job market out here fairly easily,” he said, adding that the Sedalia call center should be fully functioning by mid- to late-August,” Kincaid said after the announcement. “The facility in Sedalia will be used to contact individuals who have applied for life insurance, and collect their medical history information, so that underwriters can make good decisions about issuing them policies.”

Working with EDSPC has been a pleasure, Kinciad added. “This group has been absolutely great. Jessica has been a wonderful partner with us throughout the process, and we couldn't be happier,” he concluded.

EDSPC Executive Director Jessica Craig said her office start working with Exam One in early 2018 “to understand what their facility needs were, as they continue to grow, and recommended a handful of potential locations for them, one of those being the former Bing's East grocery store property,” Craig said.

“So we are very excited not only that they are investing in the community, and hire 100 employees, but also that they're revitalizing an existing facility, and hoping to spur a ripple effect in that corridor to help revitalize that as well.” Craig noted.

Availability of the facility, the dynamics of the community, the way in which economic development works with new businesses, and most importantly, the community's work ethic and workforce were major factors in Exam One's decision to locate its newest facility in Sedalia.

Exam One Job Fairs will be held Tuesday, June 18 and Wednesday, June 19, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Hotel Bothwell, Fourth and Ohio, in downtown Sedalia.
