Donuts get a bad rap. Well, I guess if you sit down and eat a dozen or so, then I can see the reasoning behind the statement that they can be unhealthy. But did you know there are many "healthy foods" that can be worse for you?

We are now finally swallowing that bitter pill called the truth. Sugar is not good for you. (But it tastes so good!) High consumption of the sweet stuff has been linked to health issues that range from obesity and type 2 diabetes to heart disease and stroke. But there are still food manufacturers that are still trying to slip by foods that you would think were pretty healthy options.

The website, eatthis.com, has many "For Examples" to watch out for, like "whole-wheat", "gluten-free" and "low-fat" on the labels that can be misleading.

Here are a few items to watch out for when shopping-

** "Whole-Grain" Cereal-Just because it says it's "whole-grain" doesn't mean they can't still load up with sugar. Be careful

**Salad Dressing-Here's one to be careful of-Just because the label says "Fat-free" Sun-dried Tomato Vinaigrette doesn't mean it is completely healthy for you. One particular brand has 12 grams of sugar.

How about a nice cup of yogurt for breakfast? Be careful what you grab off the shelf. Although many containers have "low-fat" and "fat-free' labels, many are loaded with as many as 30 plus grams of sugar in one helping.

Makes you wonder if the person that said, "Donuts are bad for you" has been shopping lately. Moderation, my friend, moderation. That's the answer.
