‘Doctor Who’ Season 8 Premiere Photos: Peter Capaldi Takes A “Deep Breath”
The good 'Doctor Who' may not have landed at Comic-Con 2014 last week, but Peter Capaldi and Jenna-Louise Coleman will be everywhere in the next month as fans prepare for the global season 8 premiere on August 23. To boot, we've got brand-new photos of the new 'Doctor Who''s first "Deep Breath," along with a synopsis, and details of fan screening events!
First and foremost, the latest round of photos from the August 23 premiere give a hint as to the action we'll see the Doctor and Clara undertake in their very first mission together, swinging from lower to upper class London with Madame Vastra along for the ride. In addition, the BBC have released a brand-new synopsis for the Ben Wheatley-directed premiere, which reads thusly:
The Doctor has regenerated and now Clara has to deal with the fact that her best friend appears to have changed completely… Meanwhile the newly regenerated Time Lord must face a terrifying monster as the Twelfth Doctor’s era begins in dramatic style!
Descriptive as that was, we've also learned that 'Talking Dead' host Chris Hardwick will shepherd the 'Doctor Who: Live Pre-Show' at 7:30 P.M. before the premiere, as well as 'Doctor Who: After Who Live' at 11:00 P.M., with writer-director Mark Gatiss and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage. Additionally, BBC America and Fathom Events will show the premiere with bonus footage at 550 theaters across the U.S., from August 23-25.
Elsewhere, we've heard at least a few rumblings that former series star Matt Smith could make a special appearance in the premiere, though producers are keeping tight-lipped. Samuel Anderson will guest in the new season as mysterious new companion Danny Pink, while Keeley Hawes will portray the villainous Ms. Delphox, in an episode written by ‘Sherlock”s Steve Thompson and directed by Douglas Mackinnon. Ben Miller will portray yet another villain, Hermione Norris has also been given a mysterious role, and 'Green Wing' actress Michelle Gomez will play "The Gatekeeper of the Nethersphere."
We've also included the trailer above, but in the meantime check out the latest 'Doctor Who' photos from the August 23 premiere "Deep Breath" below, and tell us what you want to see from Peter Capaldi's tenure as our beloved Time Lord in the comments!
