City Council Swears In Galliher, New Council Members
The City of Sedalia officially swore in the new mayor and two new city council members at the Sedalia City Council meeting Monday night (April 22).
Stephen Galliher was sworn into the seat held the past five years by Mayor Elaine Horn. Horn was elected by the council to serve out the unexpired term of Mayor Wasson who passed away in office, then was elected to her own four-year term. Horn had served on the council for three years at that point, which made her service to Sedalia eight years.
Her decision not to run for another term took some by surprise, and left the door open for 1st Ward Councilman Stephen Galliher who won a decisive victory over former Mayor Allen Hawkins.
The newly elected council members included two incumbents, 3rd Ward Council Woman Wanda Monsees, and 4th Ward Councilman Tolli Rowe. The new members who took the oath Monday night are 1st Ward Councilman James Cunningham and 3rd Ward Councilman Donald Meier.
Mayor Pro-Tem Bob Cross defeated 1st Ward Council Woman Jo-Lynn Turley to keep the duties for another year. It took two votes to settle the Pro-Tem matter when Meier abstained, and there was not a majority of votes for either candidate. Following a conference between Mayor Galliher and Meier, Meier came down on the side of Cross.
