Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley have just been announced to host the CMA Awards for the 11th straight year, and even she can't believe it.

Underwood headlined the first night of WE Fest in Detroit Lakes, Minn., on Thursday night (Aug. 2), and in an interview with Taste of Country prior to her show, she expressed astonishment that it's been so many years since she and Paisley took over the CMA gig.

"It's crazy," she says, reflecting in the video above. "I still remember getting that phone call about the first year, and I was like, 'They want us to what?' It was just kinda crazy, and 11 years later we're still doing this."

A lot of work goes into the CMA Awards broadcast that viewers at home will never see.

Carrie Says There's Drama on Her New Album

"The trick is to try and keep everything fresh," Underwood relates. "To try and figure out just what we're gonna talk about, and how to keep everything rolling. We want to be funny, and we want to be timely, and we want to be respectful, and we want to just make it a great show. There's a lot of love that's put into hosting the CMAs, and I hope people feel that above all else."

The "Cry Pretty" singer laughed at the notion that an entire generation has grown up only seeing her and Paisley host country music's biggest night.

"I kinda feel like that's a little disappointing," she quips, pointing to fellow WE Fest performer Vince Gill as "such an amazing host." Underwood jokes that one day she, too, will be in his position as an ex-host.

"I don't know, at some point they're gonna can us, and they'll move on, I'm sure," she says.

The 52nd annual CMA Awards will air live on ABC from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena at 8PM ET on Nov. 14.
