Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri was well-represented during the virtual State Youth of the Year competition, held April 15.

Chase Stone, a member of the Cole Camp Site, competed against other Boys & Girls Club teen members from across the state to be named the Missouri State winner.

“Chase is a great role model for our younger members and acts as a leader at our site,” said Cole Camp Site Director Tara Walker. “The members look up to him and enjoy the programs he runs.”

Stone was named the local teen Youth of the Year in January. Typically the state Youth of the Year is held in Jefferson City over two days that allows candidates to give speeches, interview with a panel of judges and meet local legislatures. Because of Covid-19 and the governor’s stay-at-home order the event was conducted virtually. The state winner, a member from Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield, was announced on Wednesday evening.

“This year was a very unique experience having everyone compete virtually through Zoom, but Chase did very well and represented our Club well,” said Director of Operations Tyler Hudson. “He are so proud of him and his unique story.”
