Are You Constantly Asking to Have Something Repeated? Signs of Hearing Loss
I've know for some time that my hearing is deteriorating. I mean, go figure, working in radio stations wearing headphones since I was sixteen with the volume louder than it probably needed to be. Along with that working in the nightclub business with all the the recorded and live music blaring probably didn't help.
Personally, I notice in a crowded room or if I'm standing outside and there's traffic going by, it's hard for me to hear. Do I need hearing aids? I was checked at the Harry S. Truman Veteran's Hospital last year and according to the expert doing my hearing test, I'm at the point with my hearing loss that I would qualify for hearing aids. Do I want them? Well, of course not! That would mean I'm getting older and who wants that to happen?
In all seriousness there are tell-tale signs that could make you want to investigate if you're suffering from hearing loss.
According to an AARP article, this could be some signs of hearing loss:
- You feel like others are mumbling and you get irritated - I will experience this from time to time when I'm talking to someone in a crowded room.
- Conversations with others are hard to understand - You try your hardest to pay close attention to what is said but sometimes you might as well be on the other side of the room because you just can't hear everything that's being said.
- You have to have the TV or the radio turned up louder than usual - I noticed this with not only myself but also experienced it with my father. It can be frustrating for those around you.
Those are just a few of the tell-tale signs of possible early hearing loss. If you're noticing some difference as you get older, you may want to get checked by a medical professional.
