The Missouri Department of Health issued an urgent statement today urging parents to immediately dispose of popular children's applesauce pouch products. It involves a recall alert issued by the FDA in November involving these 3 applesauce products for kids.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) has reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) five lead poisoning cases in children linked to an ongoing Food and Drug Administration (FDA) investigation that began on Nov. 2, 2023.

Missouri says if you have these pouches, throw them away immediately. If your children have consumed these applesauce pouches, contact a doctor immediately and have them tested for lead poisoning.

How can you tell if your child has lead poisoning?

The Missouri Department of Health says short-term symptoms can include "headache, abdominal pain, vomiting and anemia". Long term they say lead poisoning can cause "irritability, fatigue, muscle aches, constipation, brain fog, tremors, weight loss, behavioral issues and lowered IQ".
