The statewide FFA event is coming into the State Fair City for it's annual convention.

In the effort to hold an in-person event celebrating accomplishments of FFA members across the state while being responsible with current Covid-19-related health concerns, Missouri FFA plans to hold its 93rd Annual State FFA Convention April 30 and May 1 at the Mathewson Exhibition Center on the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia.

With COVID-19 hitting last year, the annual Missouri convention was not held like so many other youth-based events across the state.

It used to be a sight to be held in Missouri during the state's annual FFA convention, and then to top it off, the National FFA Convention in Kansas City was a huge event with thousands attending from across the nation. The national convention moved to Indianapolis in 1996. That year 54,489 were in attendance.

The first convention was held in KC in 1928 when 33 delegates from 18 state participated. It grew every year and continued to stay in Kansas City until 1998. It then moved to Louisville , Kentucky in 1999 where it stayed until it moved again to Indianapolis, Indiana in 2006.

This year the recognition-only event will be limited to award winners and two advisor/chaperones per school.

From information received on this year's event, morning and afternoon convention sessions are scheduled for Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1 with a goal of recognizing chapter activity awards, honorary state degree recipients, new FFA chapters, career development and leadership development event (CDE and LDE) winners, proficiency awards, star state degrees and state degree recipients.

According to Leon Busdieker, Missouri FFA state advisor-

“FFA is hands-on. It’s a four-year program, and we think this year’s plan is the best way to recognize our students for their accomplishments while still being mindful of health-related concerns.”
