32nd Sedalia DARE Car Show Generates $20,750

Despite windy and chilly conditions last Saturday, the 32nd annual DARE Car Show in downtown Sedalia was considered a success, generating a total of $20,750.63 for the Sedalia Police DARE program.

Car show organizer Bob Hiller, along with Maybelle Koeller, (shown below) presented a check for that amount to Sedalia Police Chief Matt Wirt and DARE Officer Bradley Beard on Monday night at the end of a regular City Council meeting at the Municipal Building.

Hiller also serves as a Third Ward Councilman. He is serving out the unexpired term of Lucas Richardson, who stepped down from the Council. Sedalia Mayor Andrew Dawson then appointed Hiller to the position.

Hiller ran unopposed in the General Municipal Election Tuesday, earning 380 votes, with three write-ins. Hiller will have to run a campaign next year if anyone files for his seat.

A total of 129 entries showed up for Saturday's event, which was centered around the Municipal Building at Second and Osage. Voting on the cars generated $3,225.13.

The Sedalia Elks Lodge donated $100 to buy hot dogs to serve during the show, and a donation bucket generated $529.

A live auction of 109 items generated $6,450.50 for the cause.

The biggest monetary contributor to the show was the Hayden Freedom Foundation, which kicked in a cool $10,000.

A total of 56 awards paid for by various sponsors was given out to the winners at the car show on Saturday.
