Kelly Clarkson was in the middle of a radio appearance when her 2017 Grammy Awards nomination for Best Pop Solo Performance was announced on Tuesday morning (Dec. 6), so fans listening to SiriusXM's Morning Mash Up program got to hear the singer learn about her nomination live -- and Clarkson's reaction is priceless!

"What?!" Clarkson responds after one of the DJs tells her she's earned a nomination, a somewhat-shocked look on her face. "What am I nominated for?!"

And then, she realizes: "Oh, wait! "Piece By Piece"!" Clarkson says, almost jumping out of her chair. "The live thing? Whaaaat?!"

Readers can press play on the video above to watch Clarkson's response to the news (it begins at about 4:55). As the DJs congratulate her, the artist quips, "Apparently you just have to cry on national television ... Apparently people are into that."

The Grammy-nominated version of "Piece By Piece" is from Clarkson's February appearance on American Idol, during which she broke down in tears while singing the emotional song, about how her husband, Brandon Blackstock, has become the father to their children that Clarkson’s own dad wasn’t for her.

In June, Clarkson announced a new record, to be released in 2017, on her new label home, Atlantic Records. The disc will be a soul- and R&B-influenced album, but in early 2015, Clarkson told Time magazine that while she was working on her latest project, Piece By Piece, she was also working on a country record.

The 59th annual Grammy Awards will take place in Los Angeles on Feb. 12. The Late Late Show host James Corden will host the televised ceremony, which will begin at 8PM ET on CBS; the pre-telecast Premiere Ceremony will begin at 3:30PM ET and be available to stream online. Further details, including a list of performers, will be announced in the coming weeks.
