UCM Music Professor Mia Kim Scheduled to Perform on Campus

How do you get to world-famous Carnegie Hall? One way is to follow University of Central Missouri Professor Mia Kim.

The Piano Area Coordinator and Director of the Community Music Program at UCM will travel to New York City for a performance in the historic hall on Jan. 3.

While area residents may not be able to make the trip to Carnegie Hall, they will have an opportunity to see her perform in person during a concert on Feb. 20 at UCM.
While in NYC, Kim will serve as a soloist as well as a chamber musician on a program titled “Letters  About Three Luminaries."

The music presentation will feature works of Greek composers Athanasios Zervas and Dinos Constantinides in a program that pays homage to the musical heritage of Greece, with contemporary arrangements of Greek songs.

The concert in which Kim will perform takes place in Joan and Sanford I.Weill Recital Hall, which is one of three performance spaces in the Carnegie Hall building. Weill Recital Hall opened in 1891 and is considered among the most significant performance venues in the United States.

Kim’s performance on Feb. 20 is a solo recital that is free and open to the public. It begins at 7 p.m. in Hart Recital Hall.

A longtime music faculty member at UCM, Kim made her professional debut with the Indianapolis Symphony at age 12, and has since performed throughout the U.S. Her work as a pianist has led to appearances at major music festivals and universities, recital performances and collaboration with nationally known conductors, symphony musicians and vocalists.

She is also deeply devoted to the music culture in her community and across the state of Missouri. This has included being the founder and current president of the Warrensburg Friends of Music, previous work with a youth symphony, and service as past state president of the Missouri Federation of Music Clubs.
