Sedalia Police Reports for December 22, 2023

Thursday night, Officers conducted a subject check on a vehicle in the area of West 7th Street and South Kentucky Avenue. The registered owner of the vehicle was known to have a Failure to Appear warrant from Henry County. Officers made contact with the suspect, who was operating the vehicle. It was discovered the driver was intoxicated. Jammie Morgan Newland, 22, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated (Alcohol) and her Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of Car/Truck Following Another Vehicle Too Closely. Morgan was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where she provided a breath sample on the DataMaster Transportable that showed her BAC was above 0.08. Morgan was booked n at the Pettis County Jail, pending a cash or surety bond on the FTA warrant at $500.00.

Sedalia Police responded to the 200 block of South Grand Avenue Thursday night in reference to a 911 call. The subject was checked with Dispatch, and it was confirmed he had an active warrant out of Texas with no bond. Randy Scott Metscher, 47, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Fugitive from Justice from Kleberg County, Texas*. Metscher was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked.

Thursday morning, Officers responded to the 1000 block of West 10th Street in reference to a cardiac arrest. Officers arrived on scene, and it was determined the subject was deceased. The Deputy Coroner and a funeral home were notified. The body was released to the funeral home.

Officers stopped a vehicle in the area of West Broadway Boulevard and South Grand Avenue Thursday evening. The driver was found to not have a valid driver’s license. Santiago Cucul Choc, 29, of Sedalia, as arrested for No Operator’s License. Choc was transported to the Sedalia Police Department, processed, and released with a summons.

Thursday afternoon, Officers responded to a report of fraud in the 1700 block of South Stewart Avenue. Upon arrival, Officers made contact with Susan K. Sanderson. Sanderson stated she was scammed into paying an electronic check to a person claiming to be a representative of Evergy. Payment on the check was stopped before the suspect was able to obtain the money.

Sedalia Police responded to a report of an abandoned property at the Boonslick Regional Library, 219 West 3rd Street. A bicycle was left on the property. It was put into evidence for safekeeping.

Officers were dispatched to the Mighty Melt restaurant, 2402 West Broadway Boulevard, to take a found property report. A patron of Mighty Melt had left their wallet in the restaurant, and the employees turned it over to the Police Department. Multiple attempts were made to contact the wallet owner, but those attempts were unsuccessful. The wallet was placed into evidence for safekeeping.
