Sedalia Man Arrested After Allegedly Attacking his Ex-girlfriend
On Saturday night, Officers responded to the 2500 block of Dennis Road in reference to a domestic assault.
Officers spoke with the reporting party, who stated her ex-boyfriend kicked in the door and assaulted her. According to the probable cause report, the suspect allegedly grabbed her by the hair, threw her to the ground, and kicked her in the back and side.
He then pulled out a can of pepper spray and sprayed the victim in the face. He fled the scene, but was later located and arrested in the 200 block of South State Fair Boulevard.
Nolan Ryan Smith, 44, of Sedalia, was arrested for Aggravated Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree*, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Armed Criminal Action, Burglary in the 1st Degree, and Property Damage in the 2nd Degree. Bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety.
* The FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program defines aggravated assault as an unlawful attack by one person upon another for the purpose of inflicting severe or aggravated bodily injury. The UCR Program further specifies that this type of assault is usually accompanied by the use of a weapon or by other means likely to produce death or great bodily harm. Attempted aggravated assault that involves the display of—or threat to use—a gun, knife, or other weapon is included in this crime category because serious personal injury would likely result if the assault were completed. In this instance, the alleged weapon was the can of pepper spray.
