Lauren Alaina turned to social media to share a jaw-dropping cover of one of Brooks & Dunn's most powerful hits, "Believe."

The former American Idol runner-up turned to social media to share the new performance with her fans in an enthusiastic post to Facebook. "GUYS!!! I'm sooooo excited to be a part of the #ForeverCountryCovers series," she writes.

The video series is part of the CMA's ongoing celebration of the 50th anniversary of the CMA Awards in 2016. More than 30 of the biggest stars from country music past and present recently joined together to record an epic track titled "Forever Country" to mark the occasion, blending John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads," Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" and Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again" in a once-in-a-lifetime all-star medley. The #ForeverCountryCovers series has also featured Marks Wills covering Kenny Rogers, Dustin Lynch covering Garth Brooks and Jon Pardi paying musical homage to Randy Travis.

Released in 2005 as the second single from Hillbilly Deluxe, "Believe" took Brooks & Dunn to No. 8 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart in 2006, and went on to win CMA Awards for Single of the Year and Music Video of the Year. Alaina's voice soars in her cover, emphasizing the gospel elements of the song with minimal accompaniment from acoustic guitar and simple percussion.

Alaina first came to public attention in 2011 during her run on American Idol, and though she launched a successful singing career afterward, she admits she nearly lost it all to an eating disorder that took root when a blogger started calling her "Miss Piggy" in posts. She battled bulimia for years, and developed polyps on her vocal cords. She finally overcame her disorder when doctors warned her she could lose her singing career entirely if she did not. Alaina recently released a new single, "Road Less Traveled," which was inspired by that struggle.

"This song came from a part of me that isn’t the prettiest part of me," she says, "but I want to use it to encourage people regardless of what they see as their flaw."
