‘Junk 2 Treasure’ Sale Coming to State Fair Community College
A new event, the "Junk 2 Treasure" sale, is coming to State Fair Community College September 24-25. Vendor applications are now being accepted for this sale.
"We have something new coming up," said Dana Page, event coordinator. "It's kind of a new craze going on right now. We welcome vendors of up-cycled, vintage, shabby/rusty chic, retro, or antique re purposed items. We’d also like to have vendors who sell signs, salvage, junk, trinkets, or handmade items for creating re-purposed items, as well as do-it-yourself materials, pottery and farmhouse-style items.”
Page says that some of the common re-purposed items she sees around the Sedalia area include items made from old wood palettes, license plates and old bicycle wheels. "People are just buying old pieces of things and creating new yard art, or furniture, or anything like that."
According to Page, the idea for the "Junk 2 Treasure" sale came from a trip to Joplin, which was holding a similar event. "We went to one in Joplin in February when we were down there for the regional tournament, and people stood in line to get in. It was wall-to-wall people, and people were carrying loads of stuff out of there. It was pretty amazing."
State Fair Community College's "Junk 2 Treasure" sale will be at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center. Page says the college will have workers on hand to help vendors unload and load their merchandise. Admission is $5 and is good for both days. There will be free parking, concessions and door prizes.
Vendor space is available on the upper and lower levels of the 57,000-square-foot building. Booth sizes and costs are:
• 10 x 10-foot booth, $100 ($110 with electricity)
• 10 x 20-foot booth, $180 ($190 with electricity)
Access to electricity is limited, and vendors must provide their own extension cords. A limited number of eight-foot tables is available to rent for $8 each; chairs will be provided. Space is limited; registration deadline is Sept. 16.
The "Junk 2 Treasure" sale is set for 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. September 24 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. September 25. Vendors may set up booths from 2-8 p.m. September 23. Doors will open for vendors at 7 a.m. Saturday.
