Fishin’ Reports and Turkey Season for Youth
The weather is looking up and it seems like the weather roller coaster is over. I hope they shut it down. Well, let’s start with some fishin’. Where are they catching them? In the water. No really, they are.
They’re catching them below the dam where the river meets the dead channel about a foot of the bottom using a 1/4 oz. pink and chartreuse jig. On the upper lake, fish are anywhere from five feet deep in the upper creeks and to 10-20′ suspended on channel swings.
Some friends doing some rigging in the upper Grand are doing great on minnows, and some of the fish are already staging for the spawn. So hang on, because it won’t be long now. I haven’t been bass fishin’ but it should be good. Use jerk bait bite on main lake points and mouths. Of course, if the weather stays on the upswing, they should be hitting those spinner baits and jigs in the backs of coves and creeks. I think the pre-spawn feed mode should be great for the next two weeks. The surface temperature is about low to mid-50s and rising. It’s going to be an awesome start to fishing season.
Okay, let’s talk turkey. Youth season is Saturday and Sunday, and it looks like it should be a great weekend. Hopefully we will have a successful hunt. We’ll be taking several kids out on their first hunt, and it’s going to be a blast. Thanks to State Fair Strutters for the pizza for the kids Friday night and to the guides and landowners for making it all possible. Also a special thanks to Tracy and Larry Husk for the use of their buildings for our get-together. We’ll post photos from the hunt next week. We’d love to see some of your photos too, so send ’em in.
There’s Outlaws football on Saturday night. The Kansas Koyotes will be here at our house, so lets bring the pain and get a big win. Come out and support the Mid-Mo Outlaws.
Finally, a great friend and supporter of MoKids Outdoors Russ Whitman is closing U.S. Rents & Sales in Sedalia. Their auction is Saturday, April 6, so go check it out. They’ll have a ton of stuff on the auction list.
Until next week, catch some crappie and good luck hunting those thunder chickens. Good luck!
