Following the announcement of City Administrator Kelvin Shaw’s retirement, Mayor Andrew Dawson recommended Matthew Wirt as Interim City Administrator during the City Council meeting held on Monday, December 16.

The City Council officially appointed the Interim City Administrator and will commence a nationwide search for a permanent replacement, aiming to have the position filled as soon as possible to ensure a smooth transition.

“Sedalia is a city on the move, and our leadership is committed to maintaining and building upon the progress we’ve achieved,” said Mayor Dawson. “Matthew Wirt’s twenty-five years of dedicated service to Sedalia and his experience as Assistant City Administrator over the past year make him an ideal candidate to lead during this transition period.”

The Mayor will appoint the next City Administrator with the advice and consent from Council. Interested candidates are encouraged to reach out to the City of Sedalia for more information about the position and the application process.

About the Position: The City Administrator serves as the principal administrative officer of Sedalia, working closely with the Mayor, City Council, and community stakeholders to execute strategic initiatives and manage city operations. Responsibilities include:

*Leading and coordinating City departments to ensure efficient service delivery.
Collaborating with developers, business leaders, and residents to drive economic development and community projects.

*Managing budgets and resources to support infrastructure improvements and public services.

Interim Leadership: Matthew Wirt brings extensive experience and dedication to his new role as Interim City Administrator. During his years of service at the Police Department, he served nineteen years in leadership positions and twelve in upper management positions. In his recent tenure as Assistant City Administrator, Wirt has been instrumental in advancing key city projects and initiatives. He will continue to benefit from the guidance and support from staff during this transitional period.
