The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 3 pm this afternoon (Jan. 1) to 6 am on Thursday. According to the NWS a fast moving winter stystem will move through the area today, bringing a period of light to moderate snow. Gusty north winds will combine with the falling snow to create visibility problems during the period of heaviest falling snow. Two to four inches of snow could be expected by Thursday morning. However, the wind chill is also a concern, which could make it feel like 10 to 20 degrees below zero Thursday morning.

“We get to start 2014 with a Winter Weather Advisory from 3 PM today until 6 AM Thursday. We've been down this road more than a couple of times the past few weeks,” said Sedalia and Pettis County EMA Director David Clippert. “We're looking at a possible 2-4 inches of snow starting anywhere around 3 this afternoon and may last until around 5 tomorrow morning. The Advisory has been issued due to the possible 30 mph wind gusts that may affect visibility. Snow really shouldn't be a major concern, but along with the snow will come very cold temperatures. Highs today will hit the mid-30's and then a significant drop into single digits with wind chills down to -5 to -15. The rest of the week looks cold and then we have another chance for snow this weekend.”
