I moved to Sedalia in 1977. At that time I remember three major grocery stores in town...Safeway, Consumer's and Bings.

Since then, Consumer's disappeared as did Safeway. Woods's Supermarket came to town and Walmart added a grocery section. Aldi's came on the scene as did Save-A-Lot. You'll find a few smaller stores geared for Spanish-speaking clientele.

I guess it's a sign of the times with your local stores, grocery or otherwise, starting to fall by the wayside to make room for the corporate stores. It's sad that a lot of the stores that residents grew with up are no longer with us and one will be gone by November 8, i.e., Bing's.

It's a vanishing sight in much of the country: the mom and pop grocery market on Main Street, where loyal locals shopped for years, and sometimes generations, for their basic needs.

Before the aforementioned stores were around, what where the local grocery stores that you or your family frequented?
