In a memo dated this Tuesday, June 6, 2023, Old Drum Animal Shelter has halted all intakes at their facility due to overcrowding.

According to the memo addressed to customers and community members, the shelter is over capacity and cannot accept any more cats or dogs. If you pick up a stray cat or dog, the only services the shelter can currently provide are the following:

  • Scanning the cat or dog for a microchip.
  • Posting a photo of the lost animal on their Facebook page.
  • Cross-reference lost and found animal reports.
  • Provide dog or cat food if it's available.

If you want to help the Old Drum Animal Shelter they suggest the following. First, they need adopters, fosters, and donations right now more than ever. If you're interested in adoption, you can click here to check out all of their adoptable animals here. If you're interested in fostering an animal, you can learn more about the fostering process and even fill out an application to become a foster here. The shelter provides all essentials for foster families.

The shelter also needs donations. They need everything from collars and leashes, cat and dog treats, to kitty litter. If you'd like to make a donation to the Old Drum Animal Shelter donating is easy. They have a complete donation list on Amazon of everything they need.

The shelter says everyone can help by following the Old Drum Animal Shelter Facebook page. They say they share a lot of adoptable animals, as well as a lot of found animals, and that following and sharing their posts will both help adoptions and reunite lost pets with their families. The shelter apologizes to the community for any inconvenience.
