On Monday at approximately 3:10 p.m., emergency crews responded to the area of North Engineer Ave and Saline Street in reference to a juvenile that had been struck by a vehicle.

Upon arrival, emergency crews found the juvenile had suffered significant injuries from the crash. Emergency crews attempted life-saving measures but the juvenile subsequently died from her injuries.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by 34-year-old Leandre Chandler of Sedalia was southbound on North Engineer near Saline, when the juvenile attempted to cross Engineer Ave from east to west. The Trailblazer applied its brakes and attempted to avoid the juvenile but collided with her in the intersection.

Next of kin was notified and the juvenile has been identified as 11-year-old Ella M. Kindle of Sedalia.

The driver of the Trailblazer was not injured in the crash and is fully cooperating with the investigation.

Investigation into this crash is ongoing. Several witnesses have been identified, which includes other juveniles who are being referred to Child Safe for interviews.

The Sedalia Police Department has requested and received assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Major Crash Team.
