Weekend Storm Alert: Hail & Wind Risk in Missouri
You would be wise to be prepared for potential severe weather in Missouri this weekend as the state is now suddenly in an elevated risk area according to meteorologists at the Storm Prediction Center.
I was just made aware of this new update from NOAA's Storm Prediction Center which directly impacts Missouri with the northern part of the state especially at risk. This is the map showing storm probabilities for Saturday, July 19, 2025.
If you look at the NOAA Storm Prediction Center discussion they mention a "large area of strong instability" with "corridors of severe storms with damaging winds...shear may also favor severe hail, and even a few supercells". They also include in their details a high CAPE number which in layman's terms translates into the fuel for potential severe storm development. I asked my meteorologist wife for an even simpler explanation for simple minds like mine and she said that this means that Saturday afternoon in particular will be the most likely time for strong thunderstorms in Missouri. The extreme northeastern tip appears to be the most volatile area of probability as of right now.
Expect very unpredictable thunderstorm development Saturday over parts of Missouri. Be weather aware with multiple ways to get warnings if they are issued by the National Weather Service.
