The Great American Beer Festival represents the largest collection of U.S. beer ever served, in the format of a public tasting event plus a privately judged competition. Dubbed by Thrillist as “The One Beer Festival You Must Go to Before You Die,” GABF has topped beer lovers’ bucket lists since 1982 and unites beer lovers and brewers from all corners of the country to celebrate the nation’s ever-growing craft beer culture.

The Professional Judge Panel awards gold, silver or bronze medals that are recognized around the world as symbols of brewing excellence. These awards are among the most coveted in the industry and heralded by the winning brewers in their national advertising. This year, the event took place in Denver, and three Kansas City breweries were recognized for their beers.  Lets learn a bit more about them.

BKS Artisan Ales

They are an Artisan craft brewery in Kansas City's Brookside East neighborhood.  You can check out their website HERE.  They won a gold medal for its Rockhill & Locust in the English Mild or Bitter category.  See their Facebook post below:

City Barrel Brewing Company

This brewing company is located on Holmes St in Kansas City, and they won a Bronze medal for its RAD AF in the Juicy/Hazy IPA category.  There were 375 entries.  Visit their website HERE.  They specialize in hoppy, wild and sour beers.  Along with their beer, they have imaginative cocktails and serve unparalleled food.

River Bluff Brewing

This brewery has locations in the River Market and St Joseph.  Visit their Facebook page HERE.  They won a Silver medal in the international dark lager category with their Oh Brother! beer.  It was listed as Brother-Brother in their entry.  There were 86 entries. You can check out their website HERE.

Congrats to all 3 of the breweries.  If you are a beer drinker, you may want to try these places out and congratulate them on their awards.  I hope their food is as good as their beer.  And for the record, the Great American Beer Festival next year will be Sept 22-23rd.  Perhaps a few more Missouri breweries will walk away with some medals.
