The Games We Used to Play as Kids
Remember back in the day? Outside playing tag? Whether it was the original version or the newer, cooler, updated game we referred to as freeze tag. If you're like me, it's been a few years since we played some of these classic outdoor games.
Since so many have been confined to their home, some of the 'old-school" games are coming back into neighborhood yards across the country.
According to a report from boingboing.net, Slip N' Slide, the water toy that was introduced in 1961 by Wham-O, is sold out. It has been making a resurgence during the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, in a report from TMZ:
"the company enjoyed 10 consecutive days in late April where sales doubled each day,"
We all talk about our days growing up as a child. Why is it we find those days to have been more simple? Maybe it's because back then we didn't carry the weight of the world on our shoulders as we seem to do these days during the pandemic.
I thought about some of the games we used to play when we were kids. As I mentioned previously, tag and freeze tag were two of the most popular games along with the classic hide and seek.
You didn't need any batteries or a video screen. Just a couple of neighbor kids, out in the sunshine and fresh air, having fun, running around and getting exercise. Why don't we see kids playing outside anymore. Are video games and computers making us all robots?
It's sad to think what today's youth is missing. Oh, by the way, tag...you're it!
