The CW may have TV superheroes on lock, but FOX may give them a run for their money later this year. The full fall 2017 schedule has been announced, featuring X-Men drama The Gifted, Gotham Season 4, Lucifer and all your new and returning favorites.

We’re a little over a week away from the biggest movie of the summer, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. In less than ten years, Marvel has built a powerful brand in Hollywood thanks to their great casting, sharp writing, and an ability to distill decades of comic books down to fun, accessible adventures. A big part of that translation process is the look of their movies, and particularly the look of their characters. And that’s all about costumes, which is a particular specialty of Marvel’s. Between Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and the rest, they’ve got some sharp-dressed heroes.

Without a great adversary, what good is a superhero? Without someone to punch in the face, Batman would just be some rich schmuck driving around in a weird-looking tank. Without someone on the receiving end of his shield, Captain America would just hang out at the V.F.W. all day. So let’s celebrate the villains. Let’s bring on the bad guys and give them their moment in the sun. In the original comics version of Days of Future Past, the X-Men travel into the distant future of...2013. Which, of course, is actually before the present day of X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014 (the movie instead travels to 2023). The ‘X-Men’ franchise is headed for an ‘Apocalypse’ in the near future, making headlines left and right with its latest castings, but a small-screen outing of Marvel’s mightiest mutants might evolve into place as early as 2016. FOX has confirmed development on a potential ‘X-Men’ TV series, though Disney may well block the efforts.

It wasn’t that long ago that we learned Channing Tatum would be playing the role of Cajun mutant Gambit in an upcoming ‘X-Men’ spinoff film. To make the news a bit better, we also learned that ‘RoboCop’ remake writer Josh Zeteumer was working on the script, which is based on a treatment by ‘X-Men’ comics writer Chris Claremont, who also co-created the original character. And today, in even better news, Tatum has announced the release date for ‘Gambit,’ which will be coming to a theater near you in 2016.

With every new ‘X-Men’ movie comes new mutants (no, not the New Mutants) and ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ will be no exception. While some may say that the ‘X-Men’ films are perhaps a little too overstuffed with every mutant they can get their hands on (did we really need Sunspot or Blink?), it’s hard to deny to return of Cyclops and Jean Grey; major characters and core mutants who will make their long-awaited appearance in the new era of “young” ‘X-Men’ films. So, now that we know we’ll see these characters, it’s time to find out who is going to play them in the movie.

The superhero TV boom took off even more than expected in recent months, adding 'Supergirl' and 'Titans' series to the existing pantheon of 'Arrow,' 'The Flash,' 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,' 'Daredevil,' 'Gotham' and 'Constantine,' and another major team may be joining the ranks. A new rumor suggests that the 'X-Men' universe will develop its own live-action TV series, but how might it fit into the franchise with 'Apocalypse' on the way?

The "merc with the mouth" is finally coming to the big screen. After test footage of Ryan Reynolds doing his thing as the sword-wielding comic book figure surfaced online, 20th Century Fox announced that a 'Deadpool' movie will indeed be made, further spinning off the 'X-Men' cinematic universe. But the key question now remains is, will Reynolds himself pick up the reins once again?

Guardians Of The Galaxy just enjoyed a very successful weekend at movie theaters, taking home around $94m, far in excess of expectations. The movie also stands at 92% positive reviews on aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, joining all previous Marvel Studios movies in receiving predominantly favorable notices. Marvel Studios is doing very well. In six years and ten movies, it has avoided both critical and commercial disasters, and frustrated naysayers who hailed the demise of the superhero movie at every step. Marvel's rivals at Fox, Sony Columbia, and Warner Bros, have enjoyed commercial success as well -- but not with the acclaim, consistency, or proliferation of Marvel. So how does Marvel do it, and can they keep doing it?
