Syfy Superman Prequel ‘Krypton’ Gets Steely Comic-Con Trailer
We were admittedly surprised by the “leaked” trailers for Syfy Superman prequel Krypton, so much so that official pickup seemed like a no-brainer. Now, the David Goyer-produced series reveals its first official footage, cementing our earlier optimism.
Now confirmed for a 2018 premiere, Krypton stars Cameron Cuffe as Kal-El’s grandfather Seg-El, along with King Arthur star Georgina Campbell as Lyta Zod, a member of Krypton’s military caste and the daughter of General Alura Zod. Departed Game of Thrones star Ian McElhinney plays Val-El, grandfather of Seg-El, atop a supporting cast that includes Da Vinci’s Demons star Elliot Cowan and World War Z alum Ann Ogbomo, Rasmus Hardiker, Wallis Day and Aaron Pierre.
Set 200 years before (but not directly tied to) Man of Steel, so reads the Krypton synopsis:
Years before the Superman legend we know, the House of El was shamed and ostracized. This series follows The Man of Steel’s grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known.
The new series is executive produced by Man of Steel scribe David Goyer and directed by Peaky Blinders helmer Colm McCarthy, while Sleepy Hollow alum Damian Kindler serves as executive producer and showrunner. Goyer and Kindler rewrote the original pilot teleplay, itself co-penned by Goyer and Ian Goldberg.
Krypton will likely come forward with more official details in the next few months, so stay tuned for more.
