Warrensburg Police Department are investigating an assault on a  University of Central Missouri (UCM) student.  The student was physically assaulted at a party by an unidentified, white male on Friday, Nov. 1., just off campus.

Police are still investigating the issue and ask that anyone who knows any details to contact University Police. Because of this incident, Director of Public Safety and Police, Kim Vansell, sent out an email to UCM students about how they can protect themselves and reduce the risk of being victimized during precarious, social situations:

  • When attending a social gathering, go with a group of friends. Arrive together, check in with each other throughout the evening, and leave together. Knowing where you are and who is around you may help you to find a way out of a bad situation.
  • Trust your instincts. If you feel unsafe in any situation, go with your gut. If you see something suspicious, contact law enforcement immediately (local authorities can be reached by calling 911)
  • Watch out for your friends, and vice versa. If a friend seems out of it, seems overly intoxicated for the amount of alcohol they’ve had, or is acting out of character, get him or her to a safe place immediately.

If you have any information or leads about this assault, or previous ones, the University Police ask that you contact them by telephone at (660) 543-4123; or in person, at 306 Broad Street; or anonymously through the DPS website at ucmo.edu/crime.
