I remember when I was a young lady - and I'm talking High School age here - Prom was a big deal.  It was one of those things where the entire year centered on whether or not you went.  If you decided to go with your Significant Other, there was coordiation of outfits.  If you went with a friend, you had to decide who was going with who.  If you deliberately weren't going, then you had other activities to plan.I went my Junior year of High School (I didn't go my Senior year because I held a party at my house instead).  I remember getting asked to go to prom my Junior year about two weeks before it was happening (my boyfriend and I had just broken up, and this guy didn't wanna be a jerk but also wanted to take me to Prom, so he waited a bit). I remember frantically running from store to store with my Mom, trying on dresses and trying to figure out what I was going to wear that fit my parent's budget.

Now, kids today won't have that problem.  They can just go to the Annual Formal Exchange, which is hosted by the Smith Cotton Choral Society and the Smith Cotton Honors Society.  I got to speak with Julie Pare, he Fundraiser Chairperson for the Choral Society about the event, and how you can help!

It'll be held at the FEMA Building on the Smith Cotton Junior High campus, 312 East Broadway.  They'll be set up on Friday, January 9 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday the 10th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  They'll have budget friendly prices for all occasions along with pictures, snacks, drinks, Prom related vendors, shoes, jewelry, accessories and more.  They'll have dresses in all sizes, colors and styles with something for everyone... and not just Prom.  Winter formals, Cocktail parties, Weddings, Mother of the Bride/Groom, everything!

If you need more information or you're looking to help out, you can contact Lorin at 660-851-5300, or Julie at 660-619-0007 or you can find them on Facebook. And don't think you can't still drop off some formal wear - you can totally do that!

Formally yours,
Behka
