Sedalia’s Weekend Events: Weekend of October 3
Here's a look at what's going on this weekend in our area.
Christ and Trinity will have their Fall Rummage sale on Friday and Saturday.
They’ll begin on Friday October 3 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Saturday, they’ll have a Barbecue Pork Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the Sale goes that day from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The luncheon has a cost of $8 for an adult and $5 for kids ages 6-12. They’ll have potato salad, baked beans, dessert and a beverage. Call the church office at 826-8764 for tickets.
The Northwest High Students will have their Senior Class dinner.
The menu will consist of fried fish, pulled pork, baked beans, baked potatoes, cole slaw, applesauce, pie, cake and tea. The dinner will be held at the school on October 3rd, beginning at 5 and running until the food is gone. $7.50 advance tickets, $8.00 at the door. Children ages 6-11, $5.00. Deer rifle and two person deer stand raffles, only selling 100 tickets, $20.00 per chance for the rifle, $10.00 per chance for the stand. All proceeds go to the NWHS 2015 Senior class trip. The Fireball Run Reality web series will be in Sedalia on Friday, October 3.
At 5:30 p.m. in Downtown Sedalia, there will be a Fireball run Parade to the finish line, school bands, surprise entertainment, classic car show, and a bounce house. At 7:00 p.m. there will be a block party with live music from the Full Moon Band and Ruckus, beer garden, food vendors, and a 50/50 drawing. The next morning at 9:00 a.m. there will be a Green Flag Start.
The Shrine Club of Sedalia will have their monthly breakfast.
It’s open to the public and held at 1375 Elm Hills blvd. It’ll happen on Saturday, October 4 from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. They’ll serve eggs, biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage, juice, milk or coffee for $6. For to go orders, call 660-281-3619 or 826-6171
The American Legion Riders Chapter 131 are hosting a Rib Sale.
It’ll be held on October 4 from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Legion, 733 E Young Street in Warrensburg. They’ll have garage sale items, arts and crafts, and pork ribs. Ribs are $13 a slab in advance, or $14 on the day of the sale. To pre order, call 429-1761. They are accepting donated items to sell on October 3rd from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Spaces and tables are available for garage sale, craft and vendors, but no food please.
The Leeton Lions Club is hosting a walk and run during the Leeton Fall Fest.
It’ll be held on October 4 at Grinstead Park. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and the 5k will start at 8:00 a.m. Cost is $15 per person, or $12 per person for groups of ten or more. Proceeds will benefit the LeeAnn Binder fund and other local charities.
Sweet Springs will host their own Oktoberfest.
The event will take place in Downtown Sweet Springs, on Saturday, October 4. This is sponsored by Sweet Springs Revitalization. They’ll feature crafts, vendors, kids corner with games and activities, baked pie contest, dog show, beer & wine garden, and more! Most events from 9 am – 4 pm. The annual St. Paul’s Lutheran School will have an Oktoberfest celebration.
It will take place on Saturday, October 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran School and Church. Oktoberfest is the primary fundraiser for the school’s PTO and promises to have amazing food, great entertainment, yummy baked goods, This year’s Oktoberfest will be the largest ever as we consolidate other events into one mega event. There will also be special recognition for all alumni of St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Sedalia.
The Queen of the Prairies Art Festival will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 4.
There will be fine artists, crafters and folk artists, artist demonstrations, strolling docents, strolling musicians, a kid’s alley, pony rides, classic car show, Court House mural tour, and vendor booths. For more information, call 660-827-3228.
On Saturday Oct.4th, the Sedalia Kiwanis Club will partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri to present the 1st Annual Kiwanis Kids Fun Day.
This event is being held at Liberty Park and will be for kids 3 to 10 years of age. The games that will be offered that day include: Fish Pond, Three-legged Race, Lollipop Tree, Gunny Sack Race, Frog Board Ring Toss, Hula Hoop Contest, Bottle Ring Toss, Jump Rope, Balloon Dart Pop,Tic Tac Toe Board and they will also have dunk tank, weather permitting. There will be a free hot dog meal for all kids taking part with adult meals available for purchase. For more information contact Ann Dove at 660-527-3794.
The Bethlehem Baptist Church Octoberfest will be Saturday, October 4.
They’ll have food, a bounce house, children’s games, activities, live music, and a silent auction of theme baskets and more. It’ll be on October 4 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The 25th annual Hughesville/Northwest All Class Reunion will be on October 4.
It’ll take place at the school, and the class of 1964 will be presented. A social will begin at 4:00 p.m. and tours of the school are available until 6:00 p.m. A buffet dinner and program will begin at 6:00 p.m. The theme this year is “Celebrating a Century of Service” with Sharee Norfleet. All former graduates, students, faculty, administrators, staff and friends are invited. Reservations and tickets will be required for the banquet and program. The Johnson County Mud Run will be on Saturday, October 4.
It’ll begin at 4:00 p.m. on the Johnson County Fairgrounds. Adult admission (12 and over) is $10, kids (6-12) are $5, and kids aged five and under get in for free. They’ll have Outlaw, 40 Modified, 37 Super Stock, 38 Hot Stock, 40 Super Stock, 50 Men’s, 50 Women’s, 35 Stock and Tractor Tire classes.
