Sedalia Police Reports For September 24, 2021

Late Thursday night, Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 200 block of Scott Joplin Court in reference to a disturbance. Malcolm L. Briscoe Jr., 30, Homeless, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail where he was placed on a 24 hour hold for Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree.

Friday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of McAnally Court for a report of vandalism. Shelina M. Vest reported that someone set off a fire extinguisher through the open window of her car, coating the interior with a dry chemical. There are no suspects at this time.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the Farm and Home store, 1400 South Limit Avenue, for a report of a vehicle theft. Dayton C. Austin stated that his vehicle was parked on the lot on September 19th and had been stolen some time after that.

Officers responded to the area of East 5th Street and South Washington Avenue Thursday night for a subject check. Arriving on the scene, a female was lying in the grass near the roadway. Officers made contact with the female and recognized her to be intoxicated. PCAD was called to assess the female. Her information was run through Dispatch, who advised that she had a Failure to Appear warrant out of Sedalia on original charges of Property Damage with a $60 cash only bond. After receiving medical treatment, Sarita Linda Leon, 59, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest for Trespassing. Leon was taken to the Pettis County Jail on her warrant and for safekeeping.

Thursday night, Officers observed a vehicle travelling at what radar indicated was 50 miles an hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, identified the driver and ran his information through Dispatch. Dispatch advised the driver had a warrant out of Sedalia for Failure to Appear with a $60 cash only bond. Desmond Marquon Echols, 22, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest and transported to the Pettis County Jail for processing.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 1400 block of East 6th Street in reference to a disturbance Thursday afternoon. Officers were told a female subject was assaulted by a subject known to her, who was intoxicated. Officers located the intoxicated female. Nickie E. Smith, 35, of Sedalia, was issued a municipal summons for Assault with a court date.

Thursday morning, Officers responded to the Police Department lobby in reference to a found property call. Jeffrey Inlow stated he located a set of car keys in the middle of the road at West 32nd Street and South Limit Avenue. The keys will be placed into evidence as found property.

In the early morning hours of September 20th, an Officer conducted a traffic stop at the Golden Corral restaurant, 2004 West Broadway Boulevard, for a defective driver's side headlight. Officers made contact with the driver. The driver's information was given to Dispatch and it was revealed the driver's status was revoked. Ramon Alejo-Romero, 41, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Revoked and transported to the Pettis County Jail where he was booked and released.

Wednesday evening, Officers were dispatched to the Menard's store, 4400 Wisconsin Avenue, for a report of a theft. Joe Palmer reported that a subject selected numerous items and threw most of the items over the fence in the lawn and garden area in an attempt to steal them. The suspect fled the business, and all of the merchandise was recovered. The merchandise was valued at $1,039.33. The suspect has been identified and charges are being requested via the prosecutor's office.

Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop on a white Honda passenger vehicle that failed to yield to oncoming traffic in the area of West Main Street and South Park Avenue Thursday afternoon. The driver was identified and Dispatch advised the driver had an active warrant from Johnson County for Failure to Appear on original charges of Driving While Suspended. The warrant on the cash or surety bond was set at $450. Zachary R. Blakemore, 27, of Centralia, was arrested on the active warrant and transported to the Pettis County Jail for booking.

Thursday morning, Officers were dispatched to Sacred Heart, 421 West 3rd Street, for a report of found property. When Officers arrived, they spoke with the staff members how stated that three cell phones were found under some bushes, stacked on top of each other. The phones were damaged and could not be turned on. The phones were collected and placed into evidence storage. The owners of the cell phones could not be determined. A copy of the report was sent to Dispatch to be entered.

Wednesday evening, Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of East 14th Street for a report of possible mail tampering. When Officers arrived, they spoke with Sonya L. Parker. Parker stated she noticed her mail stopped coming, so she checked with the Post Office. They informed her that her mail had been put on a hold. She told them she never put it on a hold and they corrected it. When Parker checked her mail, she found a letter addressed to the previous tenant saying that he started an informal Delivery account and would let him know what was coming in the mail where Parker was now living. She had the account deactivated. At the time of the report, nothing had been stolen. Officers were not able to make contact with the previous tenant for questioning.

Wednesday afternoon, Officers responded to the Bothwell Hospital, 601 East 14th Street, in reference to a subject who had active felony warrants out of Kansas City. When the suspect saw Officers, he attempted to flee from them. The suspect was placed into handcuffs after resisting Officers on scene. Donald Ray Knox Jr., 30, unknown address, was transported to the Pettis County Jail after his warrants were confirmed by hard copy. Knox's bond on the warrant for felony Burglary in the 2nd Degree, felony Tampering with a Motor Vehicle in the 1st Degree, and felony Property Damage in the 1st Degree was set at $10,000 ROR. Knox had another warrant set at $150 set. Knox was placed on a 24 hour hold pending the filing of charges. Charges of Resisting Arrest are being sought. Knox was later released from the jail pending a medical evaluation.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to a hit and run accident on South Limit Avenue and West 5th Street Thursday morning. Officers were told by Shaina Howatt that a black in color motorcycle passed between two vehicles, where it struck the passenger's side of a Honda SUV, causing damage. No injuries were reported and no vehicles were towed from the scene.

Wednesday afternoon, Officers responded to the area of East 16th Street and South Hancock Avenue for a report of an unconscious subject. It was determined that the subject, the victim, had been assaulted. The victim was transported to the Bothwell Regional Health Center by PCAD.

Wednesday morning, Harold E. Martin came to the Sedalia Police Department to report a theft of a wallet from his residence in the 1300 block of South Lamine Avenue. Martin reported that his debit card had been used on September 20th to make a purchase without his authorization.

Sedalia Police observed a blue Pontiac passenger car with no license plates driving near Broadway Boulevard and Industrial Drive. Officers made contact with the suspect and ran his information through Dispatch. Joint Dispatch confirmed he had two possible Failure to Appear warrants from Pettis County. Cody J. Hicks, 31, Homeless, was arrested on his Failure to Appear warrants on original charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle on a Highway Without A Valid License and Failure to Affix Motor Vehicle/Trailer Plates. Hick's bond was set at $250 cash.

Officers spoke with Hailey I. Morgan Wednesday afternoon in reference to found property. Morgan stated she located a wallet laying in the street in front of her property. The owner could not be located. The wallet was placed into evidence.
