Sedalia Police Reports For September 12, 2023

Monday night, Officers responded to the 1800 block of South Kentucky Avenue in reference to a hit and run accident. On arrival, Officers spoke with the present parties, Deybi Castaneda-Cortez and Lisa Wilson. Two vehicles were identified as damaged. An unknown vehicle had struck a parked vehicle, which then struck another parked vehicle. A suspect vehicle has not been identified. A report and photographs of the incident have been submitted.
Early Tuesday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding. The vehicle was travelling at 65 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. The vehicle was stopped in the area of Duke Drive and North Limit Avenue. After identifying the driver and checking his information with Dispatch, it was discovered he did not have a valid driver’s license. Franciso M. Pascual, 20, of Sedalia, was arrested For Excessive Speeding (20-25 MPH), No Proof of Insurance, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a Valid License. Pascual was released from the scene with citations, pending pickup from a licensed driver.
Sedalia Police responded to Game Zone Comics and Games, 315 South Ohio Avenue, to investigate a potential physical domestic disturbance Monday evening. The victim provided information on the assault that took place. Officers requested an assist agency from the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office due to the suspect living outside of City Limits. Officers and Deputies went to the address in the 700 block of McVey Road to locate the suspect. Samuel Harrison Hunton, 19, of Sedalia, was arrested for Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree, and Stealing. Hunton was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold.
Monday morning, Officers responded to the 400 block of Welch Court for a theft report. Officers spoke with Martha A. Reed, who stated during the weekend, someone stole items from her residence. No suspects have been identified at this time.
Officers responded to the 600 block of East 19th Street in reference to a burglary Monday morning. Juanita R. Berry reported a motorcycle was stolen from a garage in the area. The motorcycle was recovered shortly after the theft. The suspect involved has not been located at this time.
Monday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of East 14th Street in reference to found property. A bicycle was found, and the registration number did not come back as having been reported stolen. The bicycle is being held for safe keeping at the Police Department.
Sedalia Police responded to the 2800 block of Jerome Drive in reference to an animal attack Monday morning. A stray cat, white in color, attacked a resident in the area while they were outside in their yard. The cat was reported to normally be friendly, however, something changed its behavior on that day. Animal Control was advised of the situation and a report was made for documentation.
Early Monday morning, Officers responded to the Casey’s store, 1601 East Broadway Boulevard, in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, Officers contacted a highly intoxicated female subject. Her information was checked with Dispatch, and it was confirmed she had a non-expiring trespass order from the establishment. Sarita Linda Leon, 61, of Sedalia, was arrested and released with a citation for Trespassing. Later that same morning, Officers responded to the JC Penney store, 3159 West Broadway Boulevard, for a report of someone defecating in the parking lot. Contact was made with Leon, who had fecal matter on her shoes. The caller identified that Leon’s private areas were exposed during the incident. Leon was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold pending charges of Sexual Misconduct in the 1st Degree.
Sedalia Police responded to the 300 block of McAnally Court for a physical disturbance Monday afternoon. Upon arriving, contact was made with both parties. A primary physical aggressor was determined and she was placed under arrest. While making the arrest, the suspect resisted and began kicking an Officer. She had to be restrained further. Stella Ray Oetting, 30, of Sedalia, was arrested for felony Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree, felony Resisting Arrest, and Assault in the 4th Degree. Oetting was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold.
