Sedalia Police Reports For May 23, 2022

Early Sunday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of East 12th Street and East Broadway Boulevard on a vehicle failing to maintain its lane. During the course of the investigation, it was found the driver was intoxicated. Jacob Davis Borts, 26, of Fortuna, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. Borts was transported to the Sedalia Police Department where he provided a breath sample that showed his BAC was above 0.08. Borts was issued a citation for DWI and released to a sober driver.

Sedalia Police responded to Vermont Park for a report of a dog trapped in a soccer net Sunday morning. The dog was cut free and taken by Animal Control.

Sunday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to a possible burglary in the 900 block of South Grand Avenue. Investigation revealed that a crime had not been committed.

Officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of West 5th Street Sunday afternoon for a report of a deceased subject. Upon arrival, the victim was located and it was determined the subject was deceased. There is no foul play suspected at this time.

On the afternoon of May 3rd, Officers were dispatched to the Police Station lobby for a report of a violation of a court order. Upon arrival, Officers made contact with the victim, who stated she received messages from a subject that she had a full order of protection against. The incident is being investigated.

Sunday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of South Carr Avenue for a subject check. The caller stated there was an unknown vehicle parked in their driveway. Contact was made with the occupants, and their information was checked with Dispatch. It was later determined the female gave false information. When she was correctly identified, it was found she had a Failure to Appear warrant for Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Maintaining Financial Responsibility and a Probation Violation warrant for Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree. Audrey Elizabeth Wright, 32, of Kansas City, was placed under arrest for the warrants and a charge of Identity Theft is being sought.

Late Saturday night, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle they observed weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed. The traffic stop was conducted at West Broadway Boulevard and South Limit Avenue. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Joshua J. Burnett, 32, of Kearney, was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department, where he refused to provide a breath sample. A search warrant was obtained, and a blood draw was conducted. Burnett was then transported to the BRHC where the blood draw was completed. Burnett was then transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24 hour hold pending charges of Driving While Intoxicated (Prior Offender).

Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle without working license plate lights Saturday morning in the area of South Montgomery Avenue near East 6th Street. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Cheyenne Sahara Dawn Smith, 25, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department where she provided a breath sample that showed her BAC was above 0.08. Smith was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where she was booked and released to a sober driver.

Saturday morning, Officers stopped a vehicle near the intersection of West Broadway Boulevard and South Quincy Avenue after it made an improper turn. A computer check of the driver's information revealed she had an active and confirmed warrant for her arrest. Zoila P. Azurdia, 42, of Sedalia, was arrested for her Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Maintaining Financial Responsibility. Azurdia was taken to the Pettis County Jail and booked on her warrant, pending a cash only bond of $147.00.

Officers responded to the 1500 block of South Missouri Avenue Saturday morning in reference to a physical domestic disturbance. Officers made contact with both parties involved, and determined the female was the primary aggressor. Ciria N. Smith, 25, of Sedalia, was arrested for Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24 hour hold. The male had minor injury.

Friday evening, Officers were dispatched to the Police Department lobby for a reported missing person incident. Milton D. Cunningham, the reporting party, was the said missing person. Cunningham stated he was not missing, and requested to be taken off the missing person status. An assist agency report was done to clear the missing person status.

Sedalia Police conducted a vehicle stop at East Broadway Boulevard and South Hancock Avenue Saturday morning. All subjects were identified, their information was checked with Dispatch, and it was confirmed the driver had no operator's status. Erandi Servin-Huarcoco, 28, of St Louis, was issued a municipal citation for with a court date and released from the scene.

On the afternoon of May 17th, Officers were dispatched to the area of West 4th Street and South Missouri Avenue in reference to a domestic disturbance involving a firearm. The victim was able to drive to the Police Department. The suspect was apprehended in the 800 block of West 4th Street. The suspect was taken to the BRHC for medical treatment, then transported to the Pettis County Jail. Cosa W. Hoskins, 32, of Sedalia, was placed on a 24 hour hold pending state charges of Domestic Assault in the 2nd Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Property Damage in the 2nd Degree, and Violation of a Court Order. Hoskins was also held without bond on a felony Failure to Appear warrant for Probation Violation on original charges Non Support from Saline County. Hoskins also had two warrants from Pettis County on charges of felony Forgery, felony Receiving Stolen Property, felony Burglary in the 1st Degree, Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree, and felony Harassment in the 1st Degree. Bond on the Pettis County warrants was set at $51, 500 cash or surety.

Friday morning, Officers stopped a vehicle in the 300 block of North Grand Avenue after recognizing the driver as a wanted subject. The driver's warrant was confirmed by Clay County, which was issued after the suspect was held in contempt of court. David O. Waters Jr., 50, of Sedalia, was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he is being held pending a $22, 250.94 cash-only bond.

On the afternoon of May 17th, Officers stopped a vehicle near the intersection of North Park Avenue and Pettis Street after noticing it was unregistered. A computer check of the driver's information revealed his Missouri driving privileges were revoked. Tyler James Hill, 25, of Sedalia, was issued a Municipal Summons for Driving While Revoked and released from the scene.
