Sedalia Police Reports For June 24, 2022

Thursday evening, Officers were dispatched to the Heckart Community Center, 1800 West 3rd Street, in reference to a theft. When Officers arrived, they spoke with Kevin Dawson. Dawson reported $150 was stolen from his wallet that was in a locker. There have been no arrests made at this time.

Sedalia Police conducted an investigative stop on a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt Thursday evening. Officers knew the registered owner of the vehicle had a suspended driving status. The driver was found to be the registered owner. Lyoniel Jack Meyers Jr., 67, of Sedalia, was arrested and released on the scene for Driving While Suspended.

On the early morning hours of June 23rd, Officers observed a vehicle in the area of West 10th Street and Thompson Boulevard. Officers knew the owner had a revoked driving status. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. While searching the driver, a pipe used for smoking drugs was located in his pocket. The driver was transported to the Sedalia Police Department, and then to the Bothwell Regional Health Center for a blood draw. Gene K. Robinson, 61, of Sedalia, was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked on charges of Driving While Intoxicated (Persistent Offender), Driving While Revoked, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Thursday afternoon, Officers responded to the Bothwell Regional Health Center, 601 East 14th Street, in reference to a report of theft. Contact was made with Lisa Marie Irwin, who reported that her wallet was stolen from her office by a male suspect. Her credit cards were used at a local store.

Sedalia Police conducted a vehicle stop near the intersection of North Grand Avenue and West Johnson Street Wednesday evening. A consent search of the vehicle located a Bic pen that had been cut down and a small glass vial. There was a white powdery residue inside both items. The residue field tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine. The items were seized for destruction.

Officers stopped a vehicle Thursday afternoon in the intersection of West Main Street and South Missouri Avenue after noticing its registration was expired. A computer check of the driver's information revealed he had an active warrant for his arrest. The warrant was issued for Failure to Appear on an original charge of Driving Without Headlights. Lee Bryant, 28, Homeless, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked on the warrant, which carried a $100 cash or surety bond.

Wednesday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the Turley's Dependable Truck Company, 700 East 3rd Street for a report of a hit and run accident. The caller stated that he noticed damage to his driver's door. There was a witness to the accident, and there are two addresses with cameras facing the intersection where the incident took place.

Sedalia Police responded to the 600 block of East 19th Street Thursday morning for a report of harassment. Contact was made with Tammy L. Dawson, who reported she had found harassing letters in front of her house.

Officers were dispatched to the First United Methodist Church, 117 West 4th Street, on Thursday morning for a report of property damage. An unknown subject pulled down a free standing cross at the property. The value of the damage is currently unknown.

Thursday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the Domino's restaurant, 3200 South Limit Avenue, in reference to a report of forgery. On Wednesday, a driver received three fake $20 bills. On a previous night, another delivery driver received two more fake $20 bills.

Sedalia Police received a report of animal abuse Thursday morning. Kimberly M. Hopkins came to the Police Department to report texts the suspect had received from another person involving animal abuse. The animal was taken out of the house in the 1300 block of South Ohio, and taken to the veterinarian.

Thursday afternoon, Brian S. Joerg called the Police Department to report an identity theft and telephone service fraud. Someone had called up a company using his name, date of birth, social security number and address to set up new service and order an iPhone 13. The company sent an alert saying that the victim's communication preferences had changed and to contact them if this was incorrect. The shipping of the phone was halted, the change to his service was corrected, and his account was continued with settings done by Joerg. The phone was supposed to be shipped to Columbia, Missouri. There are no named suspects.
