Sedalia Police Reports For June 19, 2023

Sedalia Police responded to the Wal Mart store Friday* in reference to a theft. Officers made contact with Loss Prevention, who stated an employee had been stealing merchandise from the business. Angel L. Matacua, 19, of Sedalia, was arrested for Stealing and booked down at the Pettis County Jail.

Thursday night, Officers stopped a car in the area of West 6th Street and South Missouri Avenue because it was suspected of impaired driving. The vehicle was failing to maintain the right half of the roadway. Michael D. Shields, 53, of Sedalia, was arrested for felony Driving While Intoxicated (Drugs - Persistent Offender). Shields was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24 hour hold.

Sedalia Police responded to the 300 block of North Stewart Avenue Sunday evening in reference to a cardiac arrest. Officers arrived on scene, and it was determined the subject was deceased. The Deputy Coroner and a funeral home were notified, and the body was released to the funeral home.

Saturday night, Officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of West Broadway Boulevard for a report of a theft that occurred. Upon arrival, Officers gathered necessary information to generate a report on the incident.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had no registration plate Sunday night. The stop took place near the area of South Carr Avenue and West 16th Street. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered the driver had two Failure to Appear warrants for their arrest. One warrant was from Pettis County on an original charge of Failure to Maintain the Right Half of the Roadway, and the other was a City of Sedalia warrant for Stealing. Garrett Charles Green, 32, of Sedalia, was arrested on his two warrants and transported to the Pettis County Jail pending a total cash only bond of $336.00.

Saturday night, Officers took a theft report from Crystal Carrasco in the area of West Broadway Boulevard and South Carr Avenue. Officers spoke with Carrasco, and she stated she left her wallet sitting on the counter at Discount Smokes and Liquor, 2610 West Broadway Boulevard. Carrasco stated when she returned for it, someone had already picked it up. No suspects have been identified at this time.

Sunday evening, Officers responded to the 300 block of North Grand Avenue in reference to a disturbance. Officers identified a male subject on scene to have an active Pettis County Probation Violation warrant on original charges of Non Support of a Minor Child. Brad Lee Morgan, 45, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked in pending a $1,000 cash only bond.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the Cromwell Court apartments, in the 300 block of East 2nd Street early Monday morning. Officers arrived in reference to a disturbance. Officers spoke with both parties, and were unable to determine a primary physical aggressor. The individuals were separated and returned to their own homes. A 12 hour log was completed.

Last Wednesday morning, Officers observed a vehicle run a stop sign while speeding on East Saline Street. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of North Hurley Avenue and East Saline Street. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Jason Dean Homan, 23, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. Homan was transported to the Sedalia Police Department, where he provided a breath sample that showed his BAC was above 0.08. Homan was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released.

Officers responded to the Taco Bell restaurant, 820 South Limit Avenue Sunday night in reference to a disturbance. Officers spoke with Jennifer L. Richardson, who stated a male subject exited his vehicle in the drive thru and pointed a gun at her. The suspect has not been identified at this time.

Sunday evening, Officers conducted a subject check at the Casey's store, 1601 East Broadway Boulevard. A male subject was identified, and found to have an active Probation Violation warrant**. Scott Wayne Mathis, 47, of Cole Camp, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail with no bond.

Saturday night, Officers conducted a warrant check in the 900 block of West 10th Street. Officers were able to make contact with the subject and check his information with Dispatch. It was confirmed he had multiple warrants for his arrest. Jonathaon N. Oshea, 32, of Sedalia, was arrested for his Failure to Appear warrants on original charges of two counts of Speeding (Over 26 MPH), felony Stealing, felony Tampering With a Witness in a Felony Prosecution, felony Assault in the 3rd Degree, and Property Damage in the 2nd Degree. Oshea was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked, pending a $20,000 cash or surety bond.

Officers responded to the 500 block of South Lafayette Avenue Sunday morning in reference to a structure fire. Officers were able to get surrounding residents to safety, while the Sedalia Fire Department dealt with the fire. At this time it is unknown what caused the fire. A general information report was made.

Sunday morning, Officers responded to the intersection of West 6th Street and South Limit Avenue in reference to a hit and run accident. Upon arrival, Officers met with the victim, who stated she was side-swiped by another that fled the scene without providing information. A suspect was located a short time later, but they were not named in the report. A crash report was completed, and charges are not being sought at this time.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 900 block of West 5th Street Sunday afternoon. Upon arrival, Julie Boggs stated that sometime overnight, someone tried to set her house on fire. Boggs showed Police the corner of the house that had been damaged, from what appeared to be small fire. The state Fire Marshall was contacted, and information was gathered about a possible suspect.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the Heckart Community Center, 1800 West 3rd Street Saturday evening for a report of found property. Upon arrival, Officers met with Emily Silchuk, who stated she found a single round of gun ammunition in the parking lot. The round was collected and placed into found property.

Sunday morning, Officers responded to the Bothwell Hospital in reference to a subject that had been struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, Officers met with the victim in the emergency room. He had several injuries. He stated he was struck by a vehicle in the area of West 10th Street and South Sneed Avenue, and the vehicle had fled the scene. At the time of the report, the suspect has not been identified.

That same morning, Officers were called to the intersection of South Ingram and East 10th Street, in reference to a different hit and run accident. Upon arrival, Officers met with Kelly Miller, who explained her vehicle was struck sometime in the overnight hours while parked on South Ingram Avenue. The striking vehicle left the scene without providing information.

On the morning of June 17th, Officers were dispatched to the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, in reference to a suspicious subject. Officers made contact with the suspect in the parking lot of the business. The suspect was found to have an active Parole Violation warrant**. James T. Myrick Jr., 47, Homeless, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Myrick was booked with no bond.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 800 block of Ruth Ann Drive in reference to a disturbance last Wednesday morning. Officers made contact with two individuals who were involved in the disturbance. Both suspects were intoxicated by narcotics. While Officers were attempting to collect statements from the victims, the intoxicated male suspect continued to yell and swear at them. Cameron S. Keene, 22, of Sedalia, was arrested for Peace Disturbance and Tampering with a Victim/Witness to Testify Falsely. Amy Irene Clark, 44, was also arrested for Peace Disturbance and Tampering with a Victim/Witness to Testify Falsely. Keene and Clark were transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24 hour hold.

Officers responded to the 1300 block of West 11th Street in reference to a violation of an Ex Parte Friday evening. Officers spoke with Georgia R. Griffith, who stated an individual she has an ex parte against has been violating the terms of it. Charges have been requested on the suspect.

Saturday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of West 10th Street and South State Fair Boulevard. Officers identified the driver, and found him to have an active Pettis County warrant for his arrest. Jeremiah N. Jones, 43, of Mora, was arrested for his warrant on charges of felony Burglary in the 1st Degree and felony Domestic Assault in the 2nd Degree. Jones was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked pending a cash or surety bond of $25,000.

Friday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the area of East 7th Street and South Engineer Avenue in reference to a hit and run accident. The suspect in the accident was believed to be the same driver in another accident that occurred shortly after. State charges of Leaving the Scene of an Accident are being submitted to the prosecutor.

On the evening of June 12th, Officers responded to the 1500 block of South Moniteau avenue in reference to a trespassing report. Officers were able to identify all parties involved, and found the victim had an order of protection against the suspect. However, it was found the order had not yet been served at this time. Officers made contact with the subject, and were able to get the paperwork served.

Friday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to the Katy Depot, 600 East 3rd Street, in reference to an abandoned property call. A large suitcase was left in some nearby bushes. The suitcase was collected and entered into evidence for safekeeping.

Friday night, a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle lacking a license plate light. The stop was conducted in the area of East 6th Street and South Hancock Avenue. During the stop, the driver was found to have a warrant for his arrest from Pettis County. Brenten Evan Schultz, 37, of Sedalia, was arrested on the warrant's charges of Domestic Assault in the 4th Degree. Schultz was transported to the Pettis County Jail pending a cash or surety bond of $1500.

Saturday morning, Officers took a theft report in the 300 block of West Main Street. Alexander Kroeger reported that some time last week, someone had stolen license plates off of his vehicles. Another vehicle was also damaged.

Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop last Thursday afternoon on a vehicle that was speeding on East Broadway Boulevard near South Marshall Avenue. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered the driver had a revoked driving status. Melissa L. Barker, 45, of Sedalia, was arrested for Driving While Revoked. Barker was transported to the SPD to be fingerprinted, and was then issued a UTT for Speeding along with the DWR charge, and given a court date.

Officers responded to the Burger King restaurant, 1101 South Limit avenue Friday evening in reference to a theft. Officers spoke with Sheridan M. Anderson. Anderson indicated a wallet was stolen from their vehicle while it was in the parking lot. The suspect has not been identified.
